Real talk and last week’s meager workouts

It’s time for a bit of real talk. I’m all about fitness, healthy eating  and balance but let’s be real. I’m not perfect. Or remotely close.

I was a bit of a stress mess last week. A series of events collided, and I just got a bit overwhelmed, and when I am overwhelmed I plan. I take action. I’m the opposite of an avoider. I’m a crazed doer. And lucky for me, there is a big fat event coming up for me to plan: my wedding.

I’m not a super frilly lady. I don’t wear make up (mostly because I don’t know how) and the only time my hair gets blow dried is if I pay DryBar or RPZL to do it. I can’t name any flowers on sight other then roses and sunflowers. In middle school, I got a B- in a class called Mechanical Drawing because I could not draw a straight line with a ruler, so it is safe to say I’m not artistic or crafty.

Every time I worked out last week (4/25 – 5/1)

The Brooklyn Half is a few weeks away and my long runs are getting long (to me). I have to recalibrate how long I can work out after a long run. (It’s Tuesday and I’m still feeling Saturday’s run.) All in all, it was a lovely and busy week. Here’s what went down:

Monday: Uplift Express. I’ve taken 3 classes at Uplift and this place always exceeds expectations. More on this studio here!

Every time I worked out last week (2/29 -3/6)

Hellooooo, March!

Save for Monday (because I got in late from Miami Sunday night) I am back in morning workout mode this week. I wouldn’t say getting out of bed in the pre-dawn hours is easy, but it’s doable, so I’m doing it.

Here’s what went down:

Monday: Back to Peloton for a post-work spin class. The instructor played “Bug a Boo” by Destiny’s Child which is now the 2nd best musical moment of my fitness career. (I once heard Jai-Ho! at Physique 57 and so far nothing can surpass how much I smiled.) I was assigned a bike in the front row and eye contact with the instructor definitely made me work harder.

How to increase your metabolism and other things

Happy Monday. How was your weekend? Was it lovely? Tell me more.

It’s pretty easy to fall down the internet rabbit hole of health and wellness tips. (Hello! Can you hear me from down here!? It’s dark and there’s lots of rabbit food.)

I read a few things recently that I thought  were really smart, whether it be because they were scientific or heartfelt. Since these select pieces rose above the noise, I wanted to share them with you.

If you’ve read anything brilliant or useful recently, let me know in the comments!

This post employs data and science-driven answers to a very commonly asked question: How can I make my body work faster?

My first visit to I. AM. YOU. yoga studio

I read internet mumblings that I. AM. YOU.  was an A-grade yoga studio. My zone of existence for fitness doesn’t extend to Little Italy, so I’d never been.  I had plans to meet pal Tracey (creator of Kale with a Side of Fries) who lives downtown for a workout + dinner date and that was impetus enough for me to venture to Mulberry Street.

Let’s dig in because you’ll want to be prepared.
