Right before I left town for the holidays, I got an email from a new studio called Pon de Flo. They invited me to their grand opening party and to try a class at their soon-to-be open Mott and Broome location. I couldn’t make the celebration but I did take them up on their offer of a free class.
What is Pon de Flo? in their own words, “Pon De FLO is a Caribbean reggae dance based fitness program structured around high intensity interval training. There will be burpees, jumps, squats and so much more! It will be intense – BUT it will be FUN!”
Pon de Flo on Mott Street
Coming back to the real world after Thanksgiving is tough. I had a busy weekend with visits to my parents’ house in Long Island, Matt’s uncle’s home in NJ, my college bestie’s first grown up home (with husband and brand new baby included!) in Dobbs Ferry, and more and more and more.
I made a real rookie mistake of going to SoHo on Black Friday (I was headed to a yoga class in Nolita). I forgot that throngs of people actually shop in stores and not on exclusively on the internet. (Can someone explain to me why?)
I read internet mumblings that I. AM. YOU. was an A-grade yoga studio. My zone of existence for fitness doesn’t extend to Little Italy, so I’d never been. I had plans to meet pal Tracey (creator of Kale with a Side of Fries) who lives downtown for a workout + dinner date and that was impetus enough for me to venture to Mulberry Street.
Let’s dig in because you’ll want to be prepared.
