Happy Monday! Did you have a long weekend? Did you do anything fun? I spent the weekend in Great Barrington, Massachusetts (I had a hair and make up trial for my wedding!!!). Here’s how I spent the last week in workouts.
Tuesday: Lyon’s Den Power Yoga hour-long class with Matt (Hey, it was Valentine’s Day!) They played power ballads and it was taught by John Murray who was an awesome instructor. Sign me up for more.

Every time I worked out last week
Monday: I took a walk in Jamaica State Park in Vermont with the ski crew. The trail was a sheet of ice. The first thing I thought when got out of the car was: “Oh, here is where I sprain my ankle.” But luckily no such accident occurred.

When I first received an email from the lovely folks at the Movemeant Foundation about the NYC Dare to Bare event, I was stoked that such a cool event was happening but bummed that I couldn’t make it. I was meant to run the Hamptons Half the same weekend. As I told ya last week, my sneakers were stolen (custom orthotics included) so I couldn’t even run the 5K. (It takes two weeks to make new ones!)
I was still planning on going to Long Island for the weekend to cheer and hang out. I decided on Wednesday not to travel at all and to stay in town and participate in this awesome event.
The Movemeant Foundation (they put on this event!) offers body-positive, self-confidence building tools, resources and experiences using fitness and physical movement as the gateway to feeling powerful in your own skin. They are driven by the fact that too many woman hate their bodies. They run feel-good programs in public schools to help young women grow up feeling proud, not ashamed of their bodies.
“Dare to Bare” partnered with Sweaty Betty to give all participants a free (and very amazing) sports bra with the idea being you wear it – and no shirt to cover it – to a day of fitness classes in the ever public Union Square. (More on the bra: I’ve never had one that’s so cool and wild in the back yet supportive enough that I’d run in it before this one.)
It’s time for a bit of real talk. I’m all about fitness, healthy eating and balance but let’s be real. I’m not perfect. Or remotely close.
I was a bit of a stress mess last week. A series of events collided, and I just got a bit overwhelmed, and when I am overwhelmed I plan. I take action. I’m the opposite of an avoider. I’m a crazed doer. And lucky for me, there is a big fat event coming up for me to plan: my wedding.
I’m not a super frilly lady. I don’t wear make up (mostly because I don’t know how) and the only time my hair gets blow dried is if I pay DryBar or RPZL to do it. I can’t name any flowers on sight other then roses and sunflowers. In middle school, I got a B- in a class called Mechanical Drawing because I could not draw a straight line with a ruler, so it is safe to say I’m not artistic or crafty.
When I first sat down to write this post, I thought “Umm I didn’t work out so much this week.” But it was actually not such a poor showing. Let’s dive in! My ankle is still nagging me (argh!) so I didn’t do much running or jumping. Bummer. I skipped a 10K I was meant to run on Saturday because I don’t want to make things worse.
