Hi, everyone! What do you think of the new look of Cuckoolemon.com? I would love your opinion; let me know in the comment section if you have any feedback.
Now a few housekeeping items. (Sorry Matt, this is the only housekeeping I plan to do this week.)
Thank you to everyone who entered the REI Giveaway Sweeps. I’d like to congratulate commenter JUANITO! (real name: Jon Goren) on being the randomly selected winner! (I used a random number generator, FYI.) Jon, check your email for your gift card!
A few weeks ago, I participated in Kale with a Side of Fries‘ two-week winter detox jam. I am going to write about my experience soon, for sure. Since the detox, I’ve had a renewed excitement for healthy cooking. I wanted to bake something sweet. I scoured the internet for a healthy muffin recipe and found this 5-ingredient one from the blog Pinch of Yum. The recipe is super simple and the muffins were delicious. I used these gluten-free oats from Bakery on Main. They have 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber per serving! (No one is paying me to say this. Though I would be open to accepting dollars, OKAY Bakery on Main?)
Donald Trump is making me incredibly anxious and pissed off. I am in the Berkshires this weekend doing wedding stuff so I wasn’t able to join any of the incredible protests that happened this weekend. (Though I did donate to the ACLU, and if you can afford to I encourage you to do the same. The ACLU is working hard to protect the core fundamental rights we as Americans have come to expect. In less than two weeks in office, Trump is seriously threatening these rights with his flurry of Executive Orders.)
For me, getting into the woods is a healthy, relaxing way to temporarily regain sanity, and that’s exactly what I did for a few hours this morning. I needed a break from inhaling Twitter and MSNBC.
Oh hello. Does anyone have any tips for not binge eating over the holidays? I don’t have a single one. It’s been cookies for breakfast, lunch and dinner over here. All of my protein intake comes from the whole milk I use in hot chocolate, so that’s nice. Balance?
Monday: Soulcycle theme ride with my sister. (The theme was Taylor Swift vs Her Exes). I didn’t love this class, I’ll be honest. I hate how cramped the room is at the 77th Street studio. The rider-in-front-of-me’s ass is unavoidably in my face. I don’t feel like there is any room to do the arm work (at least not with my wingspan). I loved hanging with Jill though. Also,is it basic to go to a Taylor Swift-themed Soul class then get salads with your sister? Asking for a friend.
One of the big questions new runners have is what to wear to run in the cold. Once I got semi-committed to running, the last thing I wanted to do was take the winter off, or worse, sequester running into an indoor activity. I really do not like treadmills.
Running outside in the winter is badass and can lend itself to gorgeous, scenic runs.
There is no one-trick answer to what to wear in the cold, but there are a few factors to consider:View Post
How is everyone doing? If you’re not feeling so hot, check out this post from earlier in the week. I’m sending good feelings and virtual hugs your way.
Now, on the workout front: Usually I like to alternate types of exercises (example: not run 3 days in a row!) but it didn’t work out that way because I had to travel mid-week. So I front-loaded the week with Refine Method to make sure I met my 2x week commitment. I enjoyed it, actually. #AllTheRefineMethod
I also ran 13 miles this weekend, which is not a lot for me in general, but big number for me right now, and I’m pretty excited about it.
