Please sit back and relax as you board this bicycle built for two headed down fitness memory lane.
When I lived in DC I briefly saw a personal trainer. I think I got 3 free sessions with a new gym membership. That trainer was obsessed with the rowing machine. I had never used one before and my introduction to the rower was characteristically spastic. I remember struggling to work the electronic monitor and once that was sorted, to look like a vaguely normal person when fake rowing. I always got my feet stuck in the sneaker cages, which I argued to the trainer posed a serious evacuation hazard. To date, aside from a few brief dances with the rower at the fhitting room, those training sessions were my only interaction with the machine.
Until last week.
Hello! How is your week going? Last week for me was largely about taking it easy so I didn’t head to the Cherry Blossom 10 miler sore. Here’s what went down.
Monday: Didn’t work out.
Tuesday: Didn’t work out. (Cut me some slack, the week before was pretty intense.)
I’m a huge fan of Physique57. I wrote about it here. So when they shared their new online program with me, my curiosity piqued. Still, I’ve never been great at self-motivating to workout at home. I need in-person bullying (I mean motivation) to get the job done.
I’ve been in Colorado all week to ski, away from home and away from ClassPass. Skiing of course is an incredible workout (more on the science of that here) but on the days I didn’t ski, I wanted to get some brief toning in and so I decided to give Physique 57 On Demand a try.
P57 On Demand is the most incredible at home video workout series I’ve ever seen. Once you log in, you can view their extensive bank of online videos (you need internet to access since the videos are streamed), and you can approach the videos in three main ways (which I will break down soon). All of the equipment from the in-studio experience is subbed with things you’ll have at home (ie: a chair instead of a barre).
Need a little motivation? Today is your lucky day.
I want to share my 6 favorite pieces of fitness inspiration.
Personally, I’m not into the whole “Sweat is fat crying” line of incentive. Aesthetic changes are nice but there is something (from my vantage point) a little f*cked about that rhetoric. So you won’t find anything like that here. I like genuine encouragement; stuff that makes you feel good, without having to make you feel bad first.
Here are 6 of my fav bites of motivation. Please share yours with me in the comments!
Happy Sunday night, party people! East coasters, how was your snowy weekend? Did you work out during #Snowzilla? Tell me everything! (Spoiler Alert: I did)
Once again, I crushed ClassPass last week. Here’s what I got into:
