I am no newbie to the barre scene. I’m a devoted Physique 57 fan and I’ve tried all the major studios: Exhale, Barre3, Pure Barre, FlyBarre and Xtend Barre. I’ve even taken a barre class in Panama. But recently, I’ve fallen hard for Pop Physique. This LA-based studio opened in NYC last year and I’ve had nothing but fabulous experience sinces.
Pop Physique, I love you. Let me count the ways.
Hi, everyone! What do you think of the new look of Cuckoolemon.com? I would love your opinion; let me know in the comment section if you have any feedback.
Now a few housekeeping items. (Sorry Matt, this is the only housekeeping I plan to do this week.)
Thank you to everyone who entered the REI Giveaway Sweeps. I’d like to congratulate commenter JUANITO! (real name: Jon Goren) on being the randomly selected winner! (I used a random number generator, FYI.) Jon, check your email for your gift card!
A few weeks ago, I participated in Kale with a Side of Fries‘ two-week winter detox jam. I am going to write about my experience soon, for sure. Since the detox, I’ve had a renewed excitement for healthy cooking. I wanted to bake something sweet. I scoured the internet for a healthy muffin recipe and found this 5-ingredient one from the blog Pinch of Yum. The recipe is super simple and the muffins were delicious. I used these gluten-free oats from Bakery on Main. They have 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber per serving! (No one is paying me to say this. Though I would be open to accepting dollars, OKAY Bakery on Main?)
Here’s this week’s workout recap!
I wasn’t feeling so awesome this week so I only worked out a few times.
Before I jump into this week’s short re-cap I wanted to share a little info about my new iPhone case. I had a reckless history of iPhone ownership. I’ve drowned my phone in the toilet (who hasn’t?), tossed it down the incinerator of a large Manhattan apartment building (it was an accident), and left it in too many cabs to count (though the NYC Taxi dispatcher system always seemed to find me and return the phone; god bless them).
There is some real absentee blogger shit happening here.
Sorry guys. I had a crazy week. But I wanted to pop in to give a little update.
First, I lost my sneakers and with them my custom orthotics. I took an early morning class at the new Barry’s Bootcamp location (27th and Park). The class is hard but the real barbaric stuff happens in the locker room. After class, I raced to the locker room to shower. I kicked off my shoes and put them under the sinks to quickly get in line for the showers (because there is always a line, even if it’s a brand new studio with 6 showers).
Oh hello. I’m back with a weekly workout recap.
One thing I’ve noticed that helps when I’m really not enjoying a run, or haven’t been enjoying runs in a while, is slowing down. Running slowly, to put it plainly, is just easier. I find that when I stop pushing the pace, I can relax into the run and run for longer. Eventually I re-learn to love a faster pace, but slowing down helps me get back to a happy place with running.
What do you do when running isn’t coming easy?
Here’s what went down last week:
