How I feel about working out in the winter (told through gifs)

I do not like the cold. That’s why I take dressing for a winter run so seriously. These are my deep, dark thoughts about working out in the winter (or any temperature below 50 degrees).

Where to buy workout clothes on the cheap

I’ll start with this: There is nothing to stop you from performing your best in a cotton t-shirt and a regular gym shorts. But what can I say, nearly nothing motivates me to show up for a class or head out for a run like a shiny new pair of leggings.

I love Bandier, Lululemon and Sweaty Betty. But it’s not always realistic (or necessary) to purchase a full workout wardrobe from an upmarket store.

Two things that I do think it’s CRITICAL to be picky about are socks and sports bras. In my case, going for a run in shitty socks leads to blisters 100% of the time. (Tip: I love the brands Feetures and Balega for running socks.) When it comes to sports bras, I am loyal to Lululemon and Sweaty Betty.  These bras cost well over forty smackaroos a pop, but when you’re jumping up and down, you’ll think it’s worth every penny.

cheap workout gear

If you know where to look, you can find gorgeous fitness gear without the hefty price tag. All of your favorite brands can be found for (relatively) cheap on the world wide web. Plus, there are some lower priced brands that make fashionable, high-quality duds. Grab your wallet (or use the credit card you’ve memorized) and start shopping:

My 2018 racing schedule (so far)

Happy 2018, friends.

Unlike everyone else, I have not started out the new year with a fitness frenzy. I have run a grand total of ZERO miles in 2018. In fact, my last Strava entry is from Christmas Day; I did a 3-mile jaunt in Kyoto and haven’t hit the pavement since. But sinful as it may be to say:  I love running. (Which means sometimes I hate running and that’s normal.) So I’ve signed up for a few races to make sure I get back on track.

Here’s what I have signed up for so far. Are you registered for any of these? Any must-race events I should get on my calendar?

Back in New York

Hello! Sorry for the extended absence. Matt and I were on our honeymoon! We spent the last three weeks traveling and we went to South Korea (for a night!), Japan (for 9 days), New Zealand (for 9 days) and then had an extended layover in Beijing, China (where we hiked part of the Great Wall!).

I hope to write about all the biking, hiking and adventuring we did soon. Hope everyone had a happy holiday and New Year. Is anyone starting off 2018 with a new fitness regimen or nutrition plan? I’d love to hear about it!

A quick hello from Japan

Hi guys! Wanted to say konnichiwa from Tokyo! Matt and I just started our honeymoon. We spent three days in Tokyo and now we are on a train bound for the mountain town of Hakone.

As for workouts, we’ve walked ten+ miles every day exploring the city. We’ve also started our mornings with quick workouts in the hotel gym. Getting a little strength in is a bonus. Plus the views from the gym aren’t bad.

Looking for tips on how to workout while you’re traveling this holiday season? Look no further.

Any favorite things to do in Osaka or Kyoto?

Hope you’re having a great day.
