Hello, hello! It’s faux-Fall in New York right not and I am LOVING it. Running in 60-degree weather is an entirely different beast from running in 80-degree weather.
Before I get into the weekly recap, a word from our sponsor. (This post is sponsored by me.)
Sometimes sharing these weekly reports makes me feel a little self conscious. I know some people will look at this and say “she barely did anything.” Others will wonder where I find the time to work out 6 out of 7 days. Today I want to share some thoughts with the latter group.
The truth is it’s often a pain in the butt to make it to a class or to fit in a run. When work gets very busy or any number of things happen in life it can be tricky to make all the pieces fit. But here’s how I make it work in a few key thoughts:
- I wake up early. It sucks. At least at first. I love sleep. I could easily sleep 10 hours each night. Do you have to be at work by 8am? Work out at 6am. It’s early. And I repeat it sucks. But soon enough your workout will be over. (Tips on creating an early morning workout habit here.)
- I prefer working out/being active to TV. This feels controversial to express and I am by no means shunning television. I just don’t watch that much of it right now. Either way, it creates some time for me to do other things.
- It doesn’t take me a long time to get ready. I can fit in a workout into a small time frame because I sacrifice aesthetics. I often show up places with wet hair. I pack my clothes the night before. I don’t wear much make up. I am no beauty queen and this work for me. I keep earrings in the same bag I keep my Garmin in and sometimes I put them on to feel put together. Working out makes me feel happier than putting on make up does.
- I have friends who like working out, and it’s how we hang out. This one I can help you with. Wanna hang?
It’s also worth noting, I don’t have kids or another significant responsibility to balance. I imagine it’s much more challenging to add that to the mix so I by no means want to discount the ease of my current situation.
Ok here’s how last week shook out!
Monday: I hiked up the Gorge Path Trail to the top of Cadillac Mountain with Matt. My ankle was out of juice so I hitched a ride down (to avoid falling down).
Tuesday: Nothing, glorious nothing.
Wednesday: PT in the am and a 5-mile run in the PM
Thursday: morning yoga class at YogaMaya in Flatiron. It’s right next to the Barry’s Chelsea.
Friday: 3-mile run in the pouring rain
Saturday: A short hike in Housatonic, MA (in the Berkshires) called Flag Rock with some pals (I didn’t take any photos, unforch)
Sunday: 10-mile run including the Guido’s Gr8t Road Race

WHO is saying “she barely did anything”? Seriously, who are you, out there? What is your life like? I’m just curious.
