Good morning. Excuse me as I hit you up with some random goodies.
Last week the New York Road Runners announced the results of the NYC Marathon lottery. Did any one get in? I’m running NYC (and it’s my first ever marathon) this year and would love to know if any readers/friends will be training too. Let me know in the comments! I received guaranteed entry through the NYRR 9+1 program. If you didn’t get in, but want to run, there are two ways to still score a bib. Learn more here.
Anyone else love the Lego movies? Check out this awesome bike helmet that gives you Lego hair. (I think Matt needs it.)
A reader commented on my post about Central Park running facts with a link to this old New York Times article that humorously includes competitive emails between Central Park and Prospect Park. I enjoyed it, and thought you might too.
If you’re a new runner or considering giving running a shot, I recommend reading this post. I believe if you start now, by mid-May you could be in love with running.
One more thing before I dig into last week’s workouts. I’ve told you before about my love for Summer Tomato’s podcast “The Foodist.” I was a guest on her show a few weeks ago and I asked her for tips on how not to gain weight when training for a big race (like a marathon). I often gain weight when I run, and I know I’m not alone. Darya’s advice is helpful and so very smart. I’m a little embarrassed to hear my own voice on here, but Darya’s help was too good not to share.
Now, for the workout report.
Last week’s workouts (2/27 – 3/5)
Monday: Fhitting Room. I snagged a last minute spot on ClassPass and went after work. I was still super sore from #FitwithBAE the day before so this was tough. Instructor Denny tried to get me to squat heavier/more/deeper and I just offered a sad face in response because I was really at my limit. Either way I never regret a trip to the Fhitting Room. It’s such a worthwhile 50 minutes. The instructors (and there are two per class) at Fhitting Room are fabulous and usually pretty funny.Tuesday: Didn’t work out
Wednesday: I took Chest/Back/Arms at Barry’s Bootcamp. We made 6 switches in the class (meaning I was on the treadmill three different times). It was a tough but doable workout. Thursday: I did an easy-paced 3-mile run along Riverside Drive. I’ve been stopping a lot when I run which tells me I’m running too hard too quickly. So I tried slowing down and just enjoying myself. It worked. I didn’t feel the need to stop and I naturally and gradually picked up the pace during my run.
Friday: Mat57 at Physique 57 before work
Saturday: Didn’t work out
Sunday: I ran 7.3 miles on Riverside Drive. I ran to Riverbank State Park which I’d only run under before. (You run under the park on the Hudson River Greenway.) This was a new-to-me run and I really liked running on Riverside Drive. I was shielded from the wind (unlike running directly on the river).
How was your week? Are you training for anything? My next race is the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in DC!
