I recently asked my friend Jenny if she had ever tried a cleanse. She responded, “I once subsisted on only grapefruit, coffee and Parliament Lights, but I don’t think that’s what you’re looking for.” Fair, Jenny. Fair. Jenny’s “cleanse” is not a good example, but I love reading about strange exercises, fad diets and weird habits.
And I’ve had a lot to read recently! Maybe it’s residual New Year’s Resolution excitement, but there have a ton of trendy/weird health and fitness news out there. Instead of sending it in a mass email to my friends who I hope aren’t too tired of that sort of correspondence, I thought I’d share it here. I mean, if you’re reading this you must like weird fitness stuff. At least a little. So here are 3 of the best ones. Here. We. Go.
WSJ: For Athletes Who Don’t Savor Sweets, How About a Squeeze of Pizza?
Anyone interested in an energy gel that tastes like Thanksgiving?

NYMag: I Spent 3 Minutes Inside a -264 Degree Cryotherapy Machine
So instead of you know, crunches, this lady just froze herself for 3 minutes and the effort her body made to survive proved more efficient workout than Barry’s Bootcamp.

Elle: It’s the skim lattes, green juices and almonds that are making you fat
I loved this. It’s a very honest look at food choices and losing weight. Read it. It’s the anecdote to the weird fads.
I have a huge soft spot for weird fitness and health trends. I’ve written about drinking butter here and other fun stuff here. Have you read about anything else that’s pretty out there? Tell me! Even better, have you TRIED any of them?
I’ve never tried any detoxes, really. But these are interesting articles to read during my spare time. 🙂
